From Tibohine/Fairymount to Rwanda

Tibohine/Fairymount branch of Bothar have come together for the first time and purchased 12 friesian heifers. The heifers were purchased at a cost of 700 Euros in March 2007. On Tuesday 27th November, eight of them began their journey to Rwanda. The remaining four are going in January, 2008.

All the heifers are to calf from February, 2008 onwards. For a family in Rwanda to receive a heifer is the equivalent of an Irish family winning the lotto. That is just an idea of how poor the people there are.

Tibohine/Fairymount parish had a fundraiser recently and raised 3,800 Euros. The money along with sponsorship from the parish donors will be used to subsidise another batch of heifers for 2008.

The Bothar Committee along with the parish are truly proud of their achievement and are now looking forward to repeating their efforts in 2008.
